Writing and SITREP Creation Volunteer

Position Overview

Help develop clear, accurate, and engaging stories for Five & Thrive’s SITREP newsletter, website, email communications, and other publications.

Key Responsibilities

• Research and draft SITREP articles, organizational updates, resource features, and partner stories.
• Connect with team members, volunteers, partners, or military-family community members to source and develop spotlights.
• Edit contributed content for clarity, length, tone, grammar, and consistency.
• Organize approved stories, links, images, calls to action, and credits for each SITREP issue.
• Coordinate with the team to maintain an editorial calendar and meet publication deadlines.
• Confirm names, dates, links, quotations, and other details before content is submitted for approval.
• Repurpose approved stories for the website, email, or social media when requested.
• Follow Five & Thrive’s voice, privacy, attribution, and editorial approval guidelines.

Ideal Qualifications

• Strong writing, editing, research, and interviewing skills.
• Ability to turn detailed information into warm, concise, reader-friendly stories.
• Careful attention to accuracy, sourcing, deadlines, and feedback.
• Experience with newsletters, journalism, communications, or military-family topics is helpful.

Commitment and Support

Time commitment: 8-12 hours per week, with a preferred commitment of 6 months.
Location: Remote

The volunteer will receive an orientation, relevant brand and communications guidance, platform training, clearly defined assignments, and ongoing support from a designated team member.
