Advocacy in Action

For more than 20 years, Marine Corps spouse Berlinda Castillo has met the challenges of military life with resilience, compassion, and a commitment to serving others.

After experiencing deployments, frequent change, and the repeated work of rebuilding community, Berlinda turned her own growth into opportunities for others. She began as a participant in the Camp Lejeune Leadership Seminar and later served as its President, helping fellow military spouses recognize their strengths, build confidence, and step into leadership.

Today, Berlinda serves as an advisor with the Military Family Advisory Network, where she helps elevate the voices of military families nationwide. Locally, she connects families with resources, opportunities, and support.

Berlinda is especially passionate about addressing food insecurity within the military community. Through Stronghold Food Pantry, she has organized outreach, cultivated partnerships, coordinated volunteers, and supported Camp Lejeune’s first large-scale Pop-Up Pantry—all with dignity and compassion at the center.

Her journey reflects a powerful truth: leadership is not about a title. It is about helping others succeed, whether by mentoring a spouse, delivering food, connecting a family with resources, or simply taking the time to listen.

Berlinda hopes to leave every community stronger than she found it—and to help others recognize their own worth along the way.
