Just as military veterans have sacrificed so much in service to our country, so too have their spouses. The Navy and Marine Corps recognize the invaluable contribution of military spouses and welcome their talents and strengths in our civilian workforce. In the Department of the Navy—and throughout the Federal Government—military spouses have greater opportunities than ever before to be hired as members of the civilian workforce.
Family Employment Readiness Program
The Family Employment Readiness Program (FERP) provides no cost consultations, programs and services to help families in the job search process. Consultants are available to guide spouses and family members on career planning, job seeking and resume writing, as well as to help them prepare for interviews and negotiate offers. Don’t forget about volunteering. It is a great way to learn new skills, create important networks and gain experience while contributing to the community.
New Spouse Licensure Reimbursement
Members may be reimbursed up to $1,000 for qualifying relicensing costs and business costs (up to $2,000 combined) of their spouse for orders issued on or after 22 Dec 2023, when all qualifying conditions are met.

State Licensure and Certification Reimbursement
Sailors may be reimbursed up to $500 for the state licensure and certification costs of a spouse arising from relocation to another state due to a permanent change of station (PCS) move. For the spouse licensure reimbursement, initial assignment, career intermission program, separation, or retirement orders are not considered permanent duty stations and would not qualify for reimbursement.
